The Treaty of Ryswick was signed in 1697 and it ended the war between France and the Grand Alliance of Spain, England, and Holland. It also brought and end to hostilities in North American between the French and the Algonquin's on one side and the English and the Iroquois on the other. Due to restricted communications between Europe and the Americas, the peace was not known of in North America for over 2 months.

he terms of the treaty returned Nova Scotia to the French after it had been captured by the English during the war.
