Tsimshian | Haida | Bella Coola | Kwakiutl | Nootka | Salish

The Bella Coola are a Coast Salish tribe located in the middle of the coastal area of British Columbia around south Beninck Arm, dean Inlet and the Bella Coola River, Their population in 1902 was about 311 had was in all likelihood decimated by European diseases. Their man source of food was the Salmon which flooded the rivers and the streams several times a year as the various different types of the fish returned to spawn after 4 years or growth. They relied upon the cedar tree for shelter - their long houses, transportation - their large cedar canoes, clothing, the cedar bark was used for hats and capes and fuel - for their fire and cooking.
