The Caribou inhabited
the area in the arctic where the present day communities
of Chesterfield Inlet, Rankin Inlet, Whale Cove and
Arviat are located. As is signified by their name, their
primary source of food was Caribou whose massive herds
migrated across the western arctic on a yearly basis.
They also fished and hunted other mammals such as walrus
and seals.
They used the bow and arrow but depended upon a spear
like harpoon for much of their hunting activity. They
also depended upon dogs for transportation, protection
and sometimes as a food source.
