There are very few examples of early Métis homes or buildings in modern day Manitoba and Ross house is one of those. It was the first post office in western Canada as well as serving as he residence of the Ross family.

It might not have survived if not for the vigilance of the Manitoba Historic Society which saved it from destruction in 1949 and has managed its survival ever since. After several moves it ended up at the Joe Zuken Heritage Park where it is on permanent display.

The house was build of Oak timber and many of the items in it are authentic artifacts from the Métis period.
