established Fort Langley over 150 years ago on the same
location where the Parks Canada has built the restored
replica of the fort. This was a fur trading post which
traded various items such as blankets, knives, hatchets
and rifles to the natives in exchange for furs and fruit
and salmon. The fort thrived and in 1858 when the gold
rush began, the mainland and Fort Langley were
incorporated into the colony of British Columbia.
The Fort displays many of the typical
requirements of a facility of it's time such as a
blacksmiths shop, a trading building, the fort residence
and many other basic service building required for a
fully self supporting outpost. Located along the banks
of the Fraser River, Fort Langley was easily accessible
by river to the interior and to the sea and the world
which made it a well located strategic post.
