The Korean war was the centre piece of the Cold War from
1950 - 1953. The focus had shifted from Europe to other potential areas of
expansion for the aggressive Soviet regime under Joseph Stalin. |

Dean Acheson, the American
Secretary of State under Harry Truman, may have encourage the communist forces
of North Korea to invade the fledgling territory of South Korea when he did not
include South Korea in a list of vital strategic partners the Western powers
would definitely come to the aid of if attacked by outside forces. Thus in June
of 1950 the Korean peninsula was thrust into the forefront of world affairs when
the Korea peoples army of Kim Il Sung came streaming across the boarder in an
attempt to occupy the Republic of Korea in a lighting strike.
