The Korean war was the centre piece of the Cold War from 1950 - 1953. The focus had shifted from Europe to other potential areas of expansion for the aggressive Soviet regime under Joseph Stalin.

Dean Acheson, the American Secretary of State under Harry Truman, may have encourage the communist forces of North Korea to invade the fledgling territory of South Korea when he did not include South Korea in a list of vital strategic partners the Western powers would definitely come to the aid of if attacked by outside forces. Thus in June of 1950 the Korean peninsula was thrust into the forefront of world affairs when the Korea peoples army of Kim Il Sung came streaming across the boarder in an attempt to occupy the Republic of Korea in a lighting strike.
