In a world darkened by
ethnic conflicts that tear nations apart, Canada stands as a model of
how people of different cultures can live and work together in peace,
prosperity, and mutual respect.

Canada's reputation as a country which
provides peacekeepers to the worlds troubled spots has
changed slightly over the last 20 years. With the
invasion of Kuwait by Saddam Hussein and his Republican
Guard in 1990, the United Nations voted to take the
first organizational military action since the Korean
War. Although Canada was not as heavily involved in the
Gulf War as it was in Korea, Canada did participate with
air, logistical support, medical and naval forces.
Afghanistan has been a different mission
for Canada. The original reasons for sending troops to
Afghanistan have been altered with the changing
conditions in that country. The history of this conflict
is yet to be finished. |
