The Somme | Beaumont-Hamel | Canadian Corp | September Attack | Regina Trench

In September of 1916 General Haig had determined that the head on attacks that had started the Somme offensive, and claimed tens of thousands of casualties, could not succeed on their own. He designated a new weapon as the potential key to breaking the deadlock and assigned tanks to the next attack of which 6 were allotted to the 2nd Canadian division.

The Canadian objective was the Pozieres Ridge which lies between the villages of Flers and Courcellette. This first ever attack by tanks quickly bogged down in the mud but Julian Bing, the Canadian commander pushed the attack forward to victory.
