Although photography and film became the main technology in the recording of the second world war, painted earned a special place in capturing not just the image but the spirit and the feeling of the great events of the conflict. In the tradition of the great Canadian First World War artists, some members of the Group of Seven and others produced some of the most emotional, ironic, representative and meaningful works of the wars.
